USA hardcore punk band from Philadelphia. The band's name is pronounced Why Die.
YDI is one of the premier "Hardcore / Punk" bands to come out of Philadelphia in the early 80's. Still playing a rare gig here and there, the band has had an up and down run that continues to churn out loud, hard and fast tunes across the land.
"This band, whose name is pronounced "Why Die?", released one great single in 1983. The A Place In the Sun 7" was released by the band as Blood Bubble Records #1. Musically, this band had more in common with the tough skinhead sounds of Detroit and Boston than the lighthearted skatecore most of their Philly peers played. In songs like "Mad at the World," singer Jackal rips through lyrics like "Look into my eyes and see / I'm not normal you can believe / Savage fury, uncontrollable rage / I'm gonna put you in the grave." One interesting thing about YDI is that although playing a genre of music often associated with sketchy racial politics, both Jackal and drummer Howard were black. In "Categorized," the lead track on Side B, Jackal barks 'Prejudiced eyes look upon me / Judge me by sight, take away my rights / Not knowing what I'm like or what I can do / I'm stuck with a label till the day I die.'  The band also dropped two fine tracks for the Philly compilation LP Get Off My Back with crazies like FOD, McRad, and Autistic Behavior. Unfortunately, I'm told that YDI's full length LP, also on Blood Bubble, was horrible metal. I haven't heard the LP, but judging by the fact that the title "sex machine" is added to Jackal's name, and the metal lettering on the insert, I'd guess this is true." - KFTH

"YDI was one of may favorites - having booked them to play a show at the American Legion in my sleepy hometown in '84 or '85...  Jackal was one of the most intimidating frontman ever - Mr. Nice Guy in person...  This record is amazing and not for the timid..."

Welcome to the Skeleton Closet!

I was a rabid music collector for 30+ years - Punk and Hardcore in the early-Eighties, Death Metal and Grunge in the late-Eighties, Industrial and Experimental in the early-Nineties, and Goa Trance and Psytrance in the late-Nineties and early-2000s…

I also worked at a record company for 13 years, toured North America with numerous international acts, DJed internationally, produced festivals, and had a clothing importing company.  So in this time, I’ve accumulated a lot of interesting and limited items...

Family life and other life changes have made me decide to unload my collection.  For the majority of the items, I have been the original owner of the item.  I try to be accurate on my description and condition of the items.  I have a lot to sell, so check back often -- I’ll try to keep the new listings coming weekly...
