Ruby Winters was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1942 and came up through the church before turning professional at just 16. Her first big break arrived with Diamond Records, where her 1966 debut 'In The Middle Of A Heartache' became a local radio hit and a pairing with Johnny Thunder on 'Make Love To Me' pushed the duo into the Billboard r&b Top 20. Working alongside producers Buddy Killen in Nashville and George Kerr in New York, she demonstrated continued skill and taste throughout her Diamond years and though she never got the credit she deserved stateside, she found a devoted audience on the UK Northern Soul scene, and rightly so. This album is full of reasons why she deserves reassessment by the folks back home.
