UK first pressing, in Mono! A1 & B1 Matrix.
Very shiny, glossy copy.
Played the entire album on my 1968 Bush record player this morning. It plays all the way through, with no jumps or skips. However, there is persistent crackling from what appear to be mainly spindle marks and not actual scratches. It might benefit from a professional clean. The crackling is worse on side 1, noticeable more in between tracks and in the quieter moments during each song. It gets better as the side progresses. When the music is loud, it isn’t very noticeable. Side 2 also has crackle, but much less. By the end of side 2, the crackling is barely audible at all. The sound, all in all, is big and warm, as you would expect from a 1st pressing in Mono. Considering the above - and the rarity and magnitude of this classic album - this is difficult to grade. For both sleeve and vinyl, I’d suggest the grade as VG-. The album holds up well and the ageing is there to see. This is a very rare record - a piece of history. Very imperfect, but collectible all the same. For a lesser album, I’d grade at G+, but I think VG- is appropriate here. If you were to find one in better condition, you’d expect to pay close to £100. I reckon this copy is still worth a decent amount, but I’ll start it at £20. (Sorry for the waffle, but I’m sure you understand the dilemma in grading such important albums, when far from mint, but still very playable).
