Description
This is a set of 3 extremely Rare 12inch 78 RPM Disks. This is a VERY EARLY RADIO ADVERTISING DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM, made for advertisers to open the radio market to the South American Spanish speaking population! It isn't dated but sounds like it was made between 1929-32, going by the sound of the arrangements. It opens with an announcer explaining how the show will be broadcast and how the announcements will be made in Spanish, even though this demonstration will be in English. There are various musical performed, and a few vocals including one by a man who was called the Spanish Caruso! And what a voice this man has! Truly amazing. There are several dance band selections as well. Since this came from the collection of Bert Hirsch, I kind of believe this is one of his orchestras given with a Spanish sounding bandleaders name. There is a Trombone solo on a slower tune that sounds an awful lot like Tommy Dorsey, but I can't say for sure. A very valuable piece of Radio History and Advertising as well! As far as I can find out these are the Only existing copies of this to survive. I couldn't even find any reference to it all all, anywhere!
These are 3 One-sided 78 RPM recordings that are quite thick, say half as thick as an Edison Diamond Disk. The condition of these records is Amazing! Quite possibly never played before I did, but can't be certain. I couldn't find any major flaws on them, or minor ones either. The sound is fantastic and very well recorded! Still have the original sleeves on them.
This came from the estate of BERT HIRSCH, whom many collectors will remember from the HIT-OF-THE-WEEK paper records that came out during the beginning of the depression.
Many years ago, I went to an estate auction in Connecticut, and purchased a couple of large boxes of old Radio Transcriptions that belonged to the estate of BERT HIRSCH. They had been sealed for many years. I paid a great deal for these as there was some clown with deep pockets who wanted them to nail to the walls of his music room for effect!! Even after the auction he wanted to buy a few from me for that reason...didn't happen. As I don't have a transcription player here, I rigged one together so I could hear a few of these recordings. BERT HIRSCH was a violinist, bandleader and musical contractor for many years in the New York area. He used the top men of the era like Bunny Berigan, the Dorsey Brothers and many more on his records and radio broadcasts. I read that a very drunk FATS WALLER performed on the FOX FUR TRAPPERS program....once. It wasn't on the couple shows that I played, but there many here that I'll be listing that I haven't been able to listen to! Why?? Divorce, 'nuff said.
I'll be listing quite a few of these Very Rare Radio Recordings that were made by and for BERT HIRSCH, so keep checking my listings.
