Description

VELVET UNDERGROUND AND NICO RARE  First VINYL LP  UK ISSUE VERVE MONO LOU REED

Lou Reed    John Cale   Sterling Morrison Maureen Tucker   Nico

Perhaps the most influential debut album in rock The Velvet Underground & Nico produced by Andy Warhol  Here is a Pretty RARE MONO First Pressing

on VERVE VLP 9184 from 1967.

So much has been written about it this album

that I am sure you don’t  really need me to add to it - However I think it is  worth mentioning the MONO MIX

Normally MONO AND STEREO mixes have quite small differences - Often these are details perhaps for hardcore fans and enthusiasts - But for me on this one  there are pretty big differences - The MONO mix is more punchy with more bass, more aggresive sound and danger  - “I’m waiting for my man” in particular has a very different sound in MONO -  There is the same light and shade throughout the album - but its just more extreme in MONO . Both mixes are great -   but the MONO has the edge for me - I suspect, as this album was recorded in just one day , if you ever ! - The Mono mix would have been completed first  and would reflect the spirit of such a fast recording .

Tracks are

Side One

  1. Sunday Morning
  2. I'm waiting for the man
  3. Femme Fatale
  4. Venus in Furs
  5. Run Run Run
  6. All Tomorrow's Parties
  7. I'll be your Mirror

Side Two

  1. Heroin
  2. There she goes again
  3. I’ll be your mirror
  4. The black Angel’s death song
  5. European Son to Delmore Schwartz

CONDITION

SLEEVE and VINYL are both a bit shabby  with some noticable wear on the Sleeve a few light creases and those edge creases that look like small cracks

in the laminate  (See Photos)  Back sleeve has a few small marks including the

original price in pen 25/-  and some browning /tanning of the sleeve more towards the opening edge .  So VERY GOOD for the sleeve

VINYL is also VERY GOOD with some light surface marks There is a 5 cm surface mark across first three tracks side one and further hairlines , a small scuff mark on side two track one  AUDIBLY this plays EXCELLENT - just a few light background crackles in the quietest sections

So there we are - a definitive piece of rock History - Mono Copies are pretty elusive - at the time this was way too challenging to attract big sales and Verve were  used to promoting Jazz LPs and were probably a little puzzled at what to do with the screeching chaos of this  LP - so this is now a very rare album (far rarer than many debut LPs from 1967) This one is

A copy that has  been well played and seen slightly better days. But a stone cold classic LP that really every Rock fan should have . So much of rock history begins here !
