Description
Vocalist harmonica man Preston had two pretty good rockin' swamp 45's on Goldband that go for some money but an album? Who Gnu? Try and find any mention of it anywhere and get back to me when you do. The serial number is 7745 which dates it as late 60's and it consists of 11 originals and the 'house' fave Sugar Bee - although the version here at least is instrumental showing off Van's harmonica chops, the rest range from swamp pop to blues but the accent is on the brew they cook up around Lake Charles i.e yer greasy R&B influenced soul ballads with a raw kickin' edge. Preston even attempts what the liner notes call a 'modern jazz' song but actually that comes across more as a Louis Armstrong impersonation. There are at least 8 killers and a degree of filler but as the notes say 'the musicians used on this set are the most talented we could find' -that's good because they mainly play it stripped down and raw with some fine, fine guitar and plenny of Coonass support. If you need to sample a track or two email a request.
