Uncle Simon's Folk Tales, vintage 3 record set on red vinyl, told by Dean W. J. Faulkner of Fisk University. This is a very rare record set, I have been unable to locate another copy of any of these records.
William J. Faulkner (1891 -1987) Congregational minister, folklorist,author, and Fisk University Dean recorded this recollection of the tales told to him as a child by an ex-slave handyman named Simon Brown in rural South Carolina circa 1900 when the author was about 10 years old.
C He served Fisk University as dean of men (1934-1942) and dean of the chapel (1943-1953). He also served as President of Nashville's NAACP in 1942. He worked with Martin Luther Kings grandfather, A. D. Williams at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. Faulkner wrote the book, "The Days When the Animals Talked: Black American Folktales and How They Came to Be",
In Uncle Simon's Folk Tales, Faulkner relates Brer Rabbit tales and others such as 'The Eagle - He Flew", "Brer Turkey Buzzard Waits for Dinner" and "Brer Tiger and the Big Wind", analogies for the lives of Afro-American slaves. Faulkner relates some tall tales and stories about the religious and social practices of slaves. Faulkner deserves praise as creating some of the most simple and brilliant analogies of racial injustice and making a substantial and significant contribution to the history of African American folklore.

I cannot find a date for these, but believe they predate 1968, when the Methodist Publishing House became the United Methodist Publishing House. Free priority mail shipping within continental USA.
