Description
Very rare copy of The Beatles Rarities.
Record is VG+ condition and sound clips can be provided. Cover is worn around edges and bottom has a split approximately 5inches in length.
I can't find a great deal on information on this but I assume Beatles collectors will know how rare and hard to find this is.
Below is some information gleaned from other sources which I believe to be correct for this copy.
THE BEATLES RARITIES
Rare 1978 US 17-track promo only compilation LP. The Rarities album was designed to complement the Beatles' original twelve albums by pulling together many of their single releases not available on British LPs. Unlike Capitol Records in America, British Parlophone rarely duplicated songs issued as singles on later albums.
The British Rarities (EMI/Parlophone PSLP 261), consists of seventeen tracks, including such obscure B-sides as The Inner Light and You Know My Name (Look Up The Number), along with the original version of Across The Universe and the first British release of Sie Liebt Dich and Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand (She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand sung in German).
The U.S. Rarities (Capitol SPRO 8969), compiled in Los Angeles, contains two mistakes. For some unknown reason, Sie Liebt Dich and Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand were replaced with the not-too-rare English versions of She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand. The album became a much sought-after collector's item not only because just 3,000 copies were pressed, but also because it contained the first American release of the original version of Across The Universe.
Dead wax in the trail-off groove contains the following: On both sides: "MASTERED BY CAPITOL" machine printed, "Wally" written in script. On Side 1 is the following:"SPRO-1-8969" and F1, on Side 2 is "SPRO-2-8969" and F-1.
A VERY RARE COLLECTIBLE FOR THE SERIOUS BEATLES COLLECTOR! WILL MAKE A GREAT CHRISTMAS PRESENT!! .
Beatles compilation entitled "Rarities" was issued in 1978 by Capitol Records, #SPRO 8969, containing 17 tracks. Compiled in L.A. by Capitol, this is limited to 3000 copies; because there are two mistakes in the compilation. "She Loves You" + "I Want To Hold Your Hand" were to have been the German versions due to the significance of Hamburg venues in their career. The English renditions are not part of what makes this a "rarities" idea; but the fact that it contains these "mistakes" in compilation, does make it a much-sought album. Only 3,000 copies were pressed. The other aspect is that this album also includes the first American release of the original version of "Across The Universe".
Conservatively speaking, the vinyl appears to be in VG+ condition with only minor sleeve wear marks on the disc. Album is inside its original Capitol sleeve (also rare), although will be sent in another sleeve to prevent damage to the outer sleeve.
