7" PUBLISHERS ACETATE DISC (1959/1960) BELINDA / HILL & RANGE:

CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS "You And I" b/w "I'm Gonna Get You"

BEYOND ULTRA RARE!!! You are bidding on a possibly UNIQUE Cliff Richard & The Shadows item. This is from a collection of un-credited acetates from the late 1950s and early 1960s, most likely from the UK Carlin publishing house when it closed in the 1980s. Some discs I've found no info on (these are listed in my other items as job lots) but others like this one, I've managed to identify...

The two tracks on this disc were released in October 1960 on Cliff Richard's THIRD album "Me And My Shadows" - but were never released on 7"- this disc was possibly from the song publishers to encourage a 7" release, or were early recordings while deciding the track-listing for the album. The disc is SLIGHTY LARGER than a regular single, and obviously much thicker and heavier being a lacquer-coated metal disc.

I'm not an expert on Cliff or The Shadows, but listening to the disc initially these sound like the released versions of the songs, perhaps slightly different mixes. HOWEVER - each side starts with a "count in" (either Cliff or one of the band counting in "two-three-four") so this disc must have been recorded LIVE or from a master-tape which was later edited for release. Making this an INCREDIBLE find for any early 1960s rock'n'roll collector!!!

ONLY A HANDFUL OF THESE DISC WOULD HAVE BEEN MADE AT THE TIME. What are the chances of any surviving now? Quite possible a unique item...

The disc has plain white labels, with the song title and 45RPM typed on each side. One side is rubber-stamped "BELINDA (LONDON) LTD. 17 SAVILE ROW" and the other is stamped "HILL & RANGE SONGS (LONDON) LTD." - these are also handwritten on the labels on each side. The rubber-stamps extend over the labels and onto the plain brown sleeve, so the disc even comes in its ORIGINAL cover!!!

**MORE ROCKABILLY, EARLY ROCK'N'ROLL, TEEN POP, DOO-WOP ACETATES LISTED OVER THE NEXT WEEKS!!!**

CONDITION : (Sleeve/Record) EX/VG to EX

DESCRIPTION : Like most acetates, these are fragile and play with a wee bit of background crackle, but nothing serious. When the music starts, it plays BRILLIANTLY - really vibrant sharp and twangy sound (some acetates sound a bit lifeless and wear out after too many plays). No scratches and only a few surface scuffs. Would benefit from professional cleaning, and presumably the winner will be digitally restoring the recordings.

KEYWORDS :  Spectropop, Phil Spector, Brill Building, Goffin & King, Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich, Red Bird, Blue Cat, Eddie Cochrane etc.

PAYMENT : Buyer pays in UK pounds, cheque (in the UK), IMO or Paypal.

POSTAGE : 12"s/LPs : £2.60 (UK), £3.70 (Europe) and £6.20 (Rest of World) / 7”s/CDs : £1.50 (UK), £2.50 (Europe) and £3.50 (Rest of World). Double vinyl counts as two etc. Will discount for combined shipping - each additional record sent at half price.

EACH LOT of 2 = UK: £2.50 / Europe: £4.50 / Rest of World: £6 - ACETATES ARE HEAVIER THAN REGULAR DISCS!!!

SMALL PRINT : I am first and foremeost a collector, and grade strictly as I wish everyone would. Records will be well-packed between cardboard, and sent in record mailers. In the interests of the environment, these will be recycled whenever possible. Albums will be removed from outer sleeve to avoid seam splits in transit. All records are sent with a certificate of posting, if you wish additional insurance please ask – I cannot be held responsible for missing parcels.

Good luck and check my other auctions for a selection of soul, funk, jazz, progressive, hip-hop, beats, breaks, samples and other odd-ball gear...
