This copy of Capitol ST-1998, LITTLE DEUCE COUPE, has a rare red sticker advertising the hit single Be True To Your School affixed to the front cover of the jacket. Oddly, Be True To Your School has nothing to do with the car/hot rod theme of the other eleven tracks on one of rock & roll’s first concept albums. 

This is an East Coast/Scranton pressing: the label for the first side has the numeral in plain type as 'l' without the little 'cap' at the top (that is, it is a sans-serif typeface). The back cover has a '3' in the lower right corner, indicating a Scranton jacket.

The photos of the cover and the label on the left are of the items for sale in this ad. These photos are part of the description of the item for sale. Use the description assigned the jacket and the record below and compare them to what you see in the photos. What you see is what you get when you order this record.

GRADING THIS RECORD:

Jacket visual grade assessment: The jacket is flat with reasonably squared corners and retains much of the luster on the front cover. There is obvious aging, some light stains, and the spine is wearing with some splitting starting to happen. The dark stain in the lower right corner is NOT a piece of aging adhesive tape! It is just an odd reflection of the light.

Record visual grade: NM.

My name is Neal Umphred. For those eBayers who are unfamiliar with my name, I am the author of the original line of Goldmine price guides for record collectors, which were published way back in the 20th century. I have also been selling collectable records in the mail for more than thirty years, starting in Goldmine magazine where I advertised as Pet Sounds Records.

Because my name is known by long-time buyers, it is included in the main title of each of my eBay advertisements. That way, people who have known me and my work for years can find me via eBay’s search feature.

Since most buyers are not about to trust a seller with so little feedback, my eBay mentor suggested that I include a photo to make me real to prospective buyers. This is the same photo that I use on my three websites below, so you can go to any of them and find me there and know that I am real.

MY BOOKS:

In the 1980s, I teamed up with Goldmine magazine and created a series of price guides for record collectors. These books made vast, fundamental changes in several aspects of the hobby—notably the values assigned both common and rare records, and in how those records were graded. Here are the three Goldmine titles; I list them here as bonafides for my position as a seller on eBay and to selflessly promote myself and my blogs (below)!

Goldmine's Price Guide To Collectible Record Albums (five editions) lists thousands of ten-inch and twelve-inch albums released between 1949 and 1989. The fifth edition (pictured above) concentrates on rock and roll and soul and related albums, including some pop, novelty, and movie soundtracks.

Goldmine's Price Guide To Collectible Jazz Albums lists thousands of ten-inch and twelve-inch albums released between 1949 and 1969, when most of the most valuable LPs originated. Included is traditional and Dixieland, some big band, bop and hard-bop, mainstream, West Coast, and soul and fusion jazz from the '60s.

Goldmine's Rock'n Roll 45RPM Record Price Guide listed thousands of seven-inch singles and picture sleeves, concentrating on the 1950s and '60s, where most of the more valuable 45s originated.

MY BLOGS:

Right now I am writing and running several blogs—as none of them are commercial sites, none of them compete in any way with eBay. Here are my current sites (with each title hyperlinked to that site) with a brief description of each blog:

Rather Rare Records contains articles on popular music, especially sixties rock and soul; record collecting in general, including tips on grading and buying and selling records in the mail; and anything peripheral that I consider relevant (like underground newspapers of the late 1960s and early '70s).

Elvis - A Touch Of Gold contains articles dealing almost exclusively with Elvis Presley, and focuses on the music he made and the records he sold. I even throw in some stuff on record-related memorabilia and his movies, too. 

Neal Umphred Dot Com contains articles on a wide variety of subjects, including anecdotes from a life reasonably well lived, topics of interest, and lots of progressive politics and me ranting against the vast rightwing conspiracy. Not for the faint of heart . . .

United States: For USPS Media Mail, the first disc $4; each additional disc $1.00.

Canada: For standard international shipping, the first disc is $13; each additional disc is $4.00.

Worldwide: Before making an offer, please inquire as whether or not I will ship to your address. My insurance carrier does insure packages to some countries. For First Class International, the first disc is $19; each additional disc is $5.00.

MULTIPLE PURCHASES/COMBINED SHIPPING:

I offer discounted shipping fees for more than one record per shipment ordered during a seven-day period (Monday through Sunday). Take advantage of the discount by buying more than one record: after you order the first item, you will automatically receive an electronically generated invoice from eBay.

Contact me immediately and we can put off your payment until the finalization of all transactions between us. I will hold all items until the following Sunday and then invoice you for the cost of all the items plus the discounted shipping of all those items in one package.

That way, we will be honoring all of eBay’s rules and regulations determining transactions for both the seller and the buyer. 

International shipments may not exceed four pounds (4 lb. or 1.8 kg) per parcel.

I cannot be responsible for postal transit time. I will offer expedited shipping options if you ask. 

1st Class International Mail is VERY SLOW and there is usually no tracking. Some items can take three weeks or more to arrive, frequently due to delays by your local Customs or Tax Office. Tracking is available with more expensive services like Express Mail.

FINALLY:
