IN 1977, UFO set out to record their sixth studio album. Clearly it was time to push themselves and their music to a new level, a place where at long last all the band members could shoulder an appropriate share of creative responsibility and, in so doing, reveal their overwhelming talent.
The recruitment of seasoned engineer turned producer Ron Nevison (Led Zeppelin, the Who, Bad Company etc) turned out to be a crucial decision in the crafting of ‘Lights Out’, arguably UFO’s defining moment in the studio. Armed with a brace of outstanding songs, a sense of real ambition and a genuine desire to make the most of their new found status, the band rose to the challenge…and then some.
‘Light’s Out’ showcases a band in possession of their full creative faculties. It is a record that reflects both raw excitement and carefully considered delicacy, leaving no stone unturned in the quest for perfection. From gentle, orchestral enhanced ballads to raging torrents of the toughest hard rock, every move and groove is made to fuse maximum emotional impact with no-holds-bared naked aggression.
Tough to find original green label copies - most are the late seventies blue represses.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
Pressing: Chrysalis, UK, 1977 - Green label
Vinyl: Nice clean and shiny condition. No spindle marks visible on the labels and no signs of other use. Grades as top MINT-!
Cover: Again, no wear. Issued in a beautifully designed (by Hipgnosis) cover. Sharp corners, no dings (one slight ding lower right - practically invisible), no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Slight graze top right - again virtually impossible to see. Spine is straight and uncrushed. So hard to find like this after 43 years. Grades as top MINT-!
