U2 “Fortunate Son / Dancing Barefoot” 10” metal acetate UNIQUE!!!

This is a 10” one sided, metal acetate from A&M Records in Hollywood California.  It contains different versions of “Fortunate Son” and “Dancing Barefoot”.  The acetate is dated 2/9/89, as in February 9, 1989 (US date configuration).  It was created between the release of the “Angel of Harlem” single (December 1988) and the “When Love Comes To Town Single” (April 1989).

You will need a turntable to play this acetate. IT IS NOT A CD!

“Dancing Barefoot” is close to the released version that was issued on the “When Love Comes to Town” single.

The version of “Fortunate Son” is unique to this record.  The official version of “Fortunate Son” was released on the “Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses” single (August 1992), a full 3½ years after it first appeared on this acetate.  This is the real gem on this acetate.  It has wonderfully different, unprocessed vocals by Bono that give the song a very different feel.

I have owned this record for nearly twenty years and I am a dedicated U2 completist.  While I don’t have every promo or label variation or colored vinyl variation of U2 CDs and records, I do strive to have every non-bootleg version of studio tracks, remixes and live tracks.  From these I make and enjoy my own U2 albums.  (One of my favorites is “Rattle and Hum II” which contains 80 minutes of non-LP tracks and live songs from the era none of which are on the “Rattle and Hum” LP.)  Of course, the acetate version of “Fortunate Son” is included.

I created a digital copy of these songs on DAT at 44.1 when I first acquired this acetate.  I have since transferred the DAT files to wav files to fully preserve the 44.1 sound quality.  I have created many CD mixes from these files and, of course, I have mp3 versions on my iPod.  Imagine driving around with you own private U2 tracks blasting from the car stereo.  Pretty cool!

In nearly 30 years of dedicated U2 collecting I have never seen nor heard of this version of “Fortunate Son” appearing anywhere else.  Not even on a bootleg.  And, I’ve never seen another copy of this acetate anywhere.

Don’t miss this phenomenal opportunity to acquire to acquire a unique piece of U2 history!
