Classic release from the Throwing Muses, their big stab at a polished produced rock record - and a very successful one at that. Many of the tunes had been hanging around for some time, aired at live shows, but never recorded in the studio and there is a sense of clearing the decks before the two half-sisters went their separate ways for a bit. Strangely, despite being an attempt a mainstream indie release, the album is somewhat experimental through the unusual song-structures and variety of styles deployed during the record. There is almost a sense of the Muses not really knowing what they stood for at that point. Break-up and reassessment inevitable. But instead of being a disaster, each track is a killer in its own way. The sideways glance at country, the Go-gos, grunge, American college rock, swirled together to create an intense portrait of a woman's journey through bipolarity, marriage, motherhood and adolescent experience. It's aged well.
The vinyl is in excellent condition, as is the original inner sleeve, which has the lyrics to "Two Step", production credits and some artwork. The outer sleeve is a little worn along the edges, possibly moth damage - hence only "Good" condition and a slightly lower price than others, see photos - but is far from ruined. . . . . Difficult to let this one sail.
