Record grading

I use the following standard RecordCollector (UK) system to grade vinyl records:

 

MINT: The recorditself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration insound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, bookletor poster are in perfect condition

 

NEAR MINT: The vinyl/sleeveare virtually unblemished. It looks & plays like new though the record isused.

 

EXCELLENT: Therecord shows some signs of having been played, but there is very littlelessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/orcreasing

 

VERY GOOD: Therecord has obviously been played many times, but displays no majordeterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and theoccasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items,without any major defects, is acceptable

 

GOOD: The recordhas been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated,perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents sufferfrom folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

 

+ and - are used todifferentiate between those categories

 

Packaging

Vinyl records are posted inprofessional tailor made vinyl LP cardboard mailers – corrugated and strong.Vinyl removed from outer sleeves to prevent sleeve split.
