Description

The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.

The Smiths - 'Girlfriend In A Coma' Mispress Green Sleeve 7" - 1987

Catalogue No. RT 197 - Rough Trade Records

The 7" sleeve for the UK single release of 'Girlfriend In A Coma' was, of course, intended to be grey and the 12" green; though, for reasons unknown, a very small number of the 7"s were printed with the green sleeves and a few 12"s with grey sleeves. This is not an auction for one of the 7"s which is mostly grey but has just a small strip of green along the top or bottom edge; this is a fully mispressed sleeve which is entirely green and black (as can be seen in the photos). Neither is this an auction for the Australian sleeve 7" which has had the UK 7" record put inside it to imitate the mispress (since the Australian 7"s were intentionally pressed in green but had a different catalogue number on the CBS label). In short, this is the genuine full mispress 7" which is, without a doubt, very difficult to come by. My own experience has been that this 7" version is far far harder to get hold of than the 12" grey sleeve mispress, though the reader will wish to make up their own mind on this point. I have included a photo of this mispress 7" alongside both the standard 7" and 12" versions (this auction is for the one in the middle of course!). The condition is very collectable (see below) and the record is the original first pressing with the matrix numbers ('RT 197 A1' etc) etched into the run-out groove rather than machine-stamped as you see on later copies; this suggests that only the very first few must have been mispressed with the green sleeve before the mistake was later corrected. This is a superb original collectable and one of those items which is somehow more pleasing to own than most; the 7" sleeve just looks so much better in green than grey!

The sleeve is in excellent condition since there are no rips, tears, writing or seam splits, with just some mild corner wear and no significant creases anywhere. It is not graded higher because there is some visible 'ringwear' on the reverse, where the record inside has caused a faint circular ring mark (which seems to look worse than it is in the photo due to being highlighted by the camera flash); though the record has been stored outside of its sleeve since being in my possession to avoid further wear. The vinyl and labels are also in excellent condition, with some moderate thin line surface marks on the vinyl in several places. This has not been swapped for a copy of the vinyl in newer condition since I believe in keeping the original record and sleeve together, and it is the very early pressing with etched matrix numbers as mentioned above. Please see the accompanying photos; note that the Ebay ID lettering is just on the pictures and not the item itself.

All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 1.00 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will, of course, be greater. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.

See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time, I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live.
