1971 UK First Pressing – Rolling Stones Records COC 59100
Very Early Variant 1 Pressing with A3/B3 Matrix
Up for sale is a genuine 1971 UK original pressing of The Rolling Stones’ classic album Sticky Fingers, featuring the iconic Andy Warhol-designed zipper sleeve.
This is an early made copy with the lower-known A3/B3 matrix (stamped runouts except for the etched “T.M.L. ROLLING STONES RECORDS”). This matches the earliest documented UK pressings.
Key Features:
• Working real metal zipper on the front cover – high-quality metal (noticeably better than later clothing-style zips), completely blank with 2 indented lines. Zipper opens smoothly to reveal the famous jeans photo with a man in cotton briefs. Sleeve is opened at both top and bottom as per early UK editions.
• Complete with original printed insert – band photo on one side, credits & lyrics on the other. Insert states “Printed in England by Richard Davis Ltd.”
• Original inner sleeve.
• Yellow Rolling Stones Records labels (no “Promotone N.V.” inscription, as expected for true first UK editions released in April 1971).
• UK pressing, 1971 release year.
Condition:
• Sleeve: Great condition for a 55+ year old original. Some wear consistent with age (edge/ring wear, light scuffs), but the zipper works perfectly and the artwork remains vibrant. No major splits, tears, or writing.
• Vinyl: Plays great overall. There is a minor skip at the very start of Side 2 and some light crackle in places, but once past the initial track it tracks cleanly with good sound. A strong playable copy of this early pressing.
• Insert & Inner: Well-preserved.
This is a desirable early UK first pressing with all the correct early identifiers (A3/B3 matrix, high-quality metal zipper details, etc.). A fantastic addition to any Stones or 1970s rock collection.
