The Police- Don’t Stand So Close To Me & De Doo Doo Doo De Da Da Da Test Press.
Here is an extremely rare, Police prototype picture Disc made for A&M Records, but never manufactured. One side of this 12” disc plays Don’t Stand So Close To Me. While the other side plays De Doo Doo Doo De Da Da Da.the matrix numbers AM PR 04401 A PS 2 and AM PR 04401 B PD 3 (“PD means “picture disc.”) The grooves on each side are approximately the size of the those on a 45 RPM single the rest of the outside circumference of each side is blank.
Recordmecca’s Jeff Gold is a former Vice President of A&M Records, and obtained this from a long time co- worker who worked closely on the Police’s records. He had kept this in his collection since it was made, at the time of the release of “Don’t Stand So Close To me” in 1980. This disc is in mint condition. A unique opportunity to obtain a truly rare Police record but very difficult to obtain from any source.
