Here is the original 4 track UK 7" EP Here She Comes by The Peasants from 1981. Housed in a card sleeve & released on Homestead Records, the Catalogue Number is HRSS 009. The track listing is Here She Comes, I Care For You, When I Close My Eyes and I Can Help. I assume the package was made in Great Britain for UK release, as that’s where the record was made. More specifically Homestead Records was a Northern Irish recording studio & The Peasants were an Irish band, so the package was probably made in Ireland for Irish/ UK release. It is worth noting that the pictures show that parts of the sleeve (mostly the bottom front edge) look quite creased & worn. These are not defects, but this effect has been printed on instead. Other examples of this EP that have previously come up for sale show exactly the same markings. This EP did not come with an inner sleeve. I will provide a modern paper sleeve though, as extra protection during transit.

I believe this information indicates that it comes from the First Pressing run. The Matrix Numbers are described using a clock face. The first part is the main body of the Matrix Number. It will be at 6 o’clock if it is located in front of the label with the writing curving away from me at the ends (as I look) and at 12 o’clock if it is located behind the label with the writing curving towards me at the ends (as I look). Other times give a rough idea of where additional parts of the Matrix Number are located, in relation to the main part. It’s not meant to be foolproof, just to give an idea of where the various parts of the matrix are, in relation to each other.

This is a difficult band/ record to find information on. There’s not much information available, but this is what I could find (assuming it’s accurate). I’ll also rely on some of the information on the record. The band is credited on the EP as Brendon, Paul, Malachy and Michael. Brendon is Brendan Popplestone (guitar/ vocals), Paul is Paul Nesbitt (guitar), Malachy is Malachy Muinzer (bass) and Michael is Michael Edgar (drums). The writing credits are Brendan & Harry Reid for Here She Comes, Brendan Reid for I Care For You, M. Munzer for When I Close My Eyes and M. Munzer for I Can Help. M. Munzer is Malachy Muinzer, although I now don’t know what his exact surname is. It also looks likely that Brendan Reid is Brendan Popplestone, as writing on the back states “’Here She Comes’ and ‘I Care For You’ written by Brendon.

Apparently, former members of The Incredibly Boring Band, Mike Edgar (drums) & Malachy Muinzer (bass) went on to form The Peasants with Brendan Popplestone (guitar/ vocals) & Paul Nesbitt (guitar). This four track EP was recorded at Homestead Studios in Ahoghill, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Homestead Studios may have relocated to Randalstown, County Antrim, Northern Ireland more recently. It was produced by Mud Wallace & released on his label Homestead Records in October 1981. There was supposedly a first pressing of 500, followed by a second pressing of 500. I’ve no idea if there are differences between the two pressings. The EP was manufactured by Ellie Jay (Productions) Ltd. This was a custom record manufacturing agency in London, established in 1976 & operating until 1982. It offered a complete manufacturing service to bands & small labels but by 1980, pressing was carried out by Lyntone Recordings Ltd. This explains why LYN - 9546 – IT/ LYN - 9547 – IT are scratched into the run out as well as the Ellie Jay prefix (EJSP). The music is high quality Power Pop with an obvious Beatles influence. It’s not Punk, but is usually lumped in with it, so I’ll do the same.

This is an incredibly rare record that very rarely comes up for sale. From what I can see, it has only ever been listed and sold once on Discogs, & has only ever sold three times on eBay, although there could of course have been the odd occasion that has not been documented. This would be a spectacular addition to any Punk’ Power Pop collection & considering its scarcity, is worth grabbing while you can.

Condition as follows including photographs: The sleeve is in very good/ very good plus condition, due to creasing, slight wear & slight discoloration. The bottom front edge looks quite creased & worn, but this effect is printed on. Other examples of this EP show exactly the same markings. The Vinyl is in excellent minus condition. Both sides play through well, with no jumping, skipping or sticking. The overall sound is exceptional, although it is a bit of a “lo-fi” recording. The sound is pretty much flawless. At a push, there is very occasional minimal surface noise in quieter passages & between tracks. I only recall hearing something during the fadeout of When I Close My Eyes, although I can’t guarantee that there isn’t something minimal elsewhere. The minimal surface noise is never invasive & so would not affect your listening pleasure. I always expect some surface noise from records of this age & condition. See below for NOTES ON CONDITION*.

There will be a blanket grade for each component (sleeve, record etc), which smaller factors fall into. The general appearance will be clearly visible in the photographs. Please study the photographs in detail as they form the bulk of the description. Please be aware that play grading is based on my interpretation of what I hear on my system only. Although it is an honest assessment, it does not automatically follow that you would reach the same conclusion when listening on your own system, as there are so many variables.
