Description
Up for grabs is a vaguely beat-up, but perfectly decent copy of The Downliner's Sect 1964 LP 'The Sect' on the original Columbia label (cat no 33SX 1658, matrices XAX 2729 - IN / XAX 2730 - IN).
Side One: Hurt By Love One Ugly Child Lonely And Blue Our Little Rendezvous Too Much Monkey Business Sect Appeal
Side Two: Baby What's On Your Mind Cops and Robbers Easy Rider Bloodhound Bright Lights I Wanna Put A Tiger In Your Tank Be A Sect Maniac
The record is in VG condition- there's surface marks abounding, and a few scratches that look a bit more serious. However, having played the entire thing through (on a Vestax Handy Trax- so with a pretty lightweight arm) I can happily report there's no skips to it at all. There is underlying crackle throughout, although this very seldom gets in the way of the raucous, powerful sound. There are a few heavier pops present- noticeably about 3 at the start of 'Lonely and Blue', and at the start of 'Monkey Business'.
There's a soundclip of 'Be A Sect Maniac' posted below to give you a general idea of the condition of the sound.
The sleeve is also VG condition- front is torn at the 2 bottom corners, and shows slight traces of water damage around the edges. Rear is yellowed, shows ringwear, has tape mark to the top right hand corner, and has a name written in biro, and one in pencil. Unbelievably the spine's intact and unsplit.
Perhaps not a record for the high-end collector, but a great piece of much-loved hard UK English snotty R&B for someone who loves it!
I'm glad to combine multiple items for cheaper shipping- just ask at the close of auction.
Happy bidding!
