Issued in 1959 by Record Book and film Sales Inc. NYC. USA
Samuel B Charters was a researcher and blues enthusiast who traveled in the Southern States and rediscovered and re-recorded many of the old blues men of the Twenties who had been long forgotten.
This compilation published in 1959 was probably the first attempt to bring some of these long forgotten musicians to the attention of a wider public. Previously blues enthusiasts of the time could only search for the original old 78’s in junk shops and the like.
If you want perfect reproduction of these classic tracks look elsewhere. This record was issued well before the age of re-mastering and had to be copied from used 78 rpm record without access to the original masters. Nevertheless the sound quality in my opinion is perfectly acceptable.
Please judge the condition of the cover from the pictures. The back has come away from the front andneeds repair. Due to its extreme age the binding has perished.
It comes with a four page insert with interesting pictures and info.
I purchased this record a long time ago now but now need to dispose of my vinyl collection.
