In this auction:

• “RUBBER SOUL” LP by the Beatles

• This LP is Capitol Records ST - 2442.

• This LP is a STEREO PRESSING which is designated by the letters “ST” that precedes the catalog number on both the cover and the labels.

• This LP was issued December 8, 1965.

• This is guaranteed to be a FIRST STEREO PRESSING, because the 1st pressings omitted printing “THE BEATLES” on the labels. Only their four names were printed. (The 2nd pressings inserted “THE BEATLES” between the LP title and the names of the group members.)

• According to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records by Perry Cox and Frank Daniels, the COVER in this auction is also a FIRST PRESSING STEREO COVER. The cover is of cardboard construction with front cover slick overlapping the rear slick, and it is the correct cover to go with this 1965 stereo pressing. We know that this COVER is a FIRST PRESSING COVER, because 1st Pressing Covers do NOT have the “File Under: The Beatles” language printed at the top right corner beside the catalog number.

• This COVER has the number “6” printed at the lower right corner on the rear cover. This indicates that the cover was issued from either Capitol Records’ Los Angeles or Winchester pressing plants.

• However, we can “fine tune” the origin of this cover. It was produced at Capitol’s Los Angeles plant, because the VINYL was pressed at Capitol’s Los Angeles plant. We know this because the vinyl has an asterisk (*) in the trail-off wax on both sides which is the identifying pressing plant symbol for Capitol’s Los Angeles plant.

• Therefore, this Los Angeles cover and Los Angeles vinyl are correctly paired/matched.

• NOTE: Some sellers may intentionally or accidentally switch vinyl and covers in order to create an LP with a higher grade cover and vinyl combination, but NOT correctly matched to the same pressing plant. I don’t do that. This is the correct cover and vinyl for this pressing/issue.

• The COVER is in VERY STRONG VG to WEAK VG+ CONDITION. There is light to moderate overall wear. The front cover and its image is nice and clean. There is very light wear on the top 2 corners, a very small “push” on the corner at the base of the spine and top right corner at the opening, and a tiny “ding” on the bottom edge. The rear cover has light to moderate overall “foxing” (aging) of the white areas, a couple of small light stains near the top, and a capital “B” written lightly in black marker near the top left corner. there is a small “ding” at the opening. The seams and spine are strong. There is NO RING WEAR, NO FLAKING, and NO SEAM SPLITS on this cover.

• The VINYL is in STRONG VG CONDITION with a number of very light surface hairlines/scuffs (none are “feel-able”). The VINYL has LOTS OF GLOSS!

• This LP comes with its ORIGINAL OLIVE-GREEN CAPITOL RECORDS INNER PAPER SLEEVE (which is the correct sleeve color Capitol inner sleeve for 1st Pressings of this LP).
