Description
The Beatles, Rubber Soul VG+/VG. Mono PMC 1267. Original UK 2nd Press with XEX 579-4 & XEX 580-4 matrix numbers and black labels with Yellow Parlophone logo. Labels display the text: "Sold in U.K. ...", "The Gramophone Co. ..." and “1965”.
Sleeve: Very Good
The original Garrod & Lofthouse flipback sleeve looks great. The front retains the original gloss sheen with bright colours. The rear is reasonably clean, The flip backs are in good condition without any folds or areas that have come unstuck. It does show some signs of storage wear and is graded to reflect that but nothing major wrong; no writing, rips or creases. All in all very respectable.
Inner Sleeve: Very Good +
Period white ‘patent pending’ inner sleeve that is found with a lot of Beatles records. Very clean with only a couple of tears to the opening. In addition, an audiophile quality, anti-static inner sleeve is provided which the record is stored in (see last picture).
Disc: Very Good
Matrix Numbers: XEX 579-4 & XEX 580-4 I agree with JL and much prefer the 2nd -4/-4 pressing to the earlier -1/-1 ‘Loud Cut’ - it’s much smoother. And this is a really nice disc to listen to it on. The channels are distinct, vocals sharp, ringo’s drumming clear - very nice. It has been played and enjoyed over the years and as such there is a very subtle crackle in the background of the record that can be picked up in quiet sections but which doesn’t distract your ear. There are a couple of surface marks on side 2 at the start of ‘Girl’ which cause a pop - otherwise only superficial hairlines that don’t sound. Labels are bright, clean with no writing or stickers, and minimal spindle wear.
All in all a very nice copy for the collector.
