Description
The Beatles: Please Please Me Vinyl LP: the very first UK Pressing with black & gold Parlophone labels and with Dick James Music Publishing credits to all Lennon & McCartney songs (except Love Me Do & P.S. I Love You, which are Ardmore & Beechwood).
This pressing has the original Parlophone black and gold labels, which were replaced on subsequent releases with the black & yellow log labels. All the initial very first pressings had Dick James Music Publishing credits for all the Lennon and McCartney songs and was only available for a matter of a few weeks after release.
The matrix numbers on the discs are XEX 421-1N for Side 1 and XEX 422-1N for Side 2. The inner sleeve is a genuine and original vintage Parlophone inner sleeve and came with the disc. It has a couple of creases to the corners, but is intact. I can replace with a perfect and equivalent original vintage inner if you require.
There is a later black and gold label edition, known as the "cross-over" pressing, which was also only available for a short time. This is not one. The cross-over pressings that followed on from this first pressing had some of the songs still with Dick James publishing credits for tracks A1, A2, A6 & A7 on side 1, but also had Northern Songs publishing credits for tracks B4 and B6 on side 2. Again, these were only available for a short time before all the Lennon & McCartney songs had Northern Songs publishing credits except Love Me Do & P.S. I Love You and Please Please Me & Ask Me Why, which were released on the first and second singles. These continue to have Dick James publishing credits for the tracks on the second single release and have always had Ardmore & Beechwood publishing credits, again because of their release as such on the first single.
Both the first pressing with the Dick James publishing credits and the cross-over second pressings have a cover sleeve with the Photo: Angus McBean credit vertically in line with the end of the last "s" of the statement "with Love Me Do and 12 other songs". Later pressings have shifted this credit to be vertically in line with the "g" of "songs".
Quite confusing but hopefully helpful for those only looking for a genuine first pressing, and this is one!
