Description
Chance to own a very rare and unique all analogue set of all the Beatles albums.
Housed in a black text on gold leaf (unique to Australia) 12" textured box in decent condition, some discolouration and a couple of areas where clear tape has been applied to repair and reduce further wear. It is delicate and the gold leaf has come away in some areas as you can see on the photos. Displayed straight on from the front it looks good.
Each LP in its original issue sleeve, with anti static inners, all are in near mint condition unless otherwise painstakingly described here (also see pictures as I've been overly critical):
Possibly the final pressings from the Analogue tapes as all since have been from digital masters (Mono box was analogue but the stereo box isn't)

LP11: Yellow Submarine (PCSO 7070) slight crease to top right hand corner, pictured. Vinyl excellent.
LP12: Abbey Road (PCSO 7088) (slight mark on side 2, couple of clicks on playback only pictured) sleeve excellent
LP13: Let It Be (PCSO 7096) (tiny top seem beginning split) vinyl excellent
LP14: Rarities (PSLP261) (top seem slightly split) vinyl excellent
The box itself carries the catalogue number PSLP.261
All LPs are on black Parlophone labels.
Previous history (from beatlesaustralia.com):
by mid-1980 more than 25,000 sets had sold, representing 325,000 actual albums. To commemorate this six-platinum achievement, The Beatles' Australian publisher ATV Northern Songs presented EMI (Australia) with a "gold box". Four years later, EMI (Australia) would itself commemorate the achievement by releasing the set in a textured, gold coloured box. Some boxes contained a uniquely-numbered yellow certificate stating "LIMITED EDITION GOLD BOX SET No 000# OF 4000", however, evidence suggests that more than 4,000 gold box sets were sold, as—contrary to the popular legend that the box was withdrawn—the set remained a steady seller well into the second half of 1987.

Like the Australian-made blue box, the gold box was prone to corner splits on the lift-off lid. In addition, the gold box suffered from the gold cover peeling, meaning that boxes in near mint condition are very rare.
