THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE T.REX RED VINYL PROMO PICTURE SLEEVE COPY OF A VERY LIMITED SINGLE THAT WAS NEVER SOLD COMMERCIALLY BUT ONLY GIVEN AWAY TO A HANDFUL OF RECORD INDUSTRY PEOPLE.

Towards the end 2006 I was working for the Demon Music Group, who controlled part of the T.Rex catalogue. With the 30th anniversary of Marc Bolan's tragic death looming it was generally agreed that it was timely to say thank you for all the continued support the industry had given his music. So it was decided to unite 3 of Marc's Xmas recordings on one 7" single. The catalogue number would be TREXMAS 1 and the result was 2 ‘sets’ of 30 red vinyl 7" singles bearing the same catalogue number. The ‘M set’, M being for media (press, radio and TV people) and for Marc and the ‘B set’ for business (record store staff, buyers, distributors etc) and for Bolan of course! One set had a red fabric obi with a small silver star, hand numbered brown wrap around plain sleeve over a black card inner, red feather boa, merry Christmas tag and Demon compliment slip. The other set was the same except it had a green fabric obi with a small silver Christmas tree on it this time. They were painstakingly put together by hand at Demon's offices and were sent out about 10 days before Christmas 2006. 

Demon obviously ordered 60 copies of the single to be manufactured for this purpose but when the records arrived it was found that the presser had been allowed to run-on quite significantly and 108 copies had actually been delivered. So 6 copies of each ‘set’ were designated as 'Promo's', so in total 72 copies were used to create the M and B sets and this very neatly left another 36 which were locked away. By April 2007 quite a few people who'd been sent the records had clearly passed them on to record dealers as they were turning up on Ebay and in some cases fetching up to £500.

Consequently it was decided to use the remaining 36 and do something similar that coming Christmas particularly for the people who missed out first time around. Using a photo of Marc dressed as a guitar wielding Santa Claus, a wrap around picture sleeve was created this time to go around the black card sleeve. A white box in the front right hand corner with 'No.' printed in it allowed them to be hand numbered 1 - 30 with 6 further copies designated as 'Promo's' and these were sent out in the run-up to Christmas 2007.  This is a copy of the very rare 'promo' picture sleeved edition from 2007.

The run-out grooves have ‘Happy T.Rexmas’ scratched into side one and ‘And A Trex New Year’ into side 2. 

There were only 6 of these and this is in un-played condition.

I am in the process of getting ready to move house and in a bid to make the move easier I will be auctioning more T.Rex/Marc Bolan items over the coming months alongside many other records, books and memorabillia from my private collection.

Grading:

Labels - The  labels are in PERFECT condition and there is NO wear and NO spindle marks at all. I would grade these as EXCELLENT +++.

Vinyl – The red vinyl is bright and shiny and just as it was when it arrived from the factory. It has not been played. Using Record Collector magazine guidelines I would grade this MINT. I used to write for the magazine and try and adhere to their high standards regarding grading at all times.

Single sleeve – The wrap around full colour picture sleeve is perfect (and comes in a clear plastic sleeve).  I would grade this as MINT. This is just as rare, if not rarer than the versions from 2006. Good luck bidding.
