TRAFFIC John Barleycorn Must Die (Island ILPS 9116) RARE UK Press Pink Rim MINT!
RARE early UK pressing of Traffic`s progressive folk album "John Barleycorn Must Die" on Island Records (July 1970). This is a second UK pressing with Island pink rim labels, issued in 1971.
Initially intended as a Steve Winwood solo work, the baroque folk influence on the pretty "John Barleycorn" was all that remained after both Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood rejoined Winwood to make what later proved to be Traffic`s musically most diverse and satisfying album.
Nearly perfect inside and out, this copy of "John Barleycorn Must Die" comes from my own collection. I bought the album in new, unplayed condition in the late seventies. It has been carefully played only a handful of times.
GRADING:
MINT- COVER, very well looked after by yours truly. Please see photos for details.
- Near-perfect unlaminated gatefold sleeve with original, lightly textured burlap sleeve.
- No edge or corner wear whatsoever!
- The inner gatefold has a very slight ripple; obviously a minor production flaw.
- Small (removal) store sticker from the 70s on rear sleeve (at top right).
- Small glue stain on back cover, also from initial cover production.
- Tiny blemish (from glueing) in one corner of inner gatefold.
MINT- RECORD that looks practically unplayed.
- Very near-perfect vinyl on both sides, with impeccable audio reproduction throughout.
- The record was bought new in the late seventies. It has been very carefuly played a few times only.
- No hairlining or spindle wear whatsoever.
- A single small, superficial scuff (8mm long; at the beginning of "Empty Pages") is absolutely inaudible.
- Original pink-rimmed Island Records labels that look untouched.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "ILPS 9116 A-5U P" and "ILPS 9116 B-5U".
- Mothers/Stampers: "1 / G D" on Side One and "1 / G A" on Side Two.
- This record is hereby certified to be an second pink-rim UK pressing of "John Barleycorn Must Die", released in 1971.
PLEASE NOTE: Not to be compared with the more-often-than-not substandard vinyl on offer on eBay UK, this item is in honestly-graded MINT- condition. You will NOT find another original first pressing of "John Barleycorn Must Die" as nice as this one - especially at this bargain price: "True value for money" is the motto here!
