Description

THE WHO - THE OX. BACKTRACK 14. 1970.

TRACK 2407 O14.

STAMPERS 2407 014 A1 11 3  /  2407 014 B1 11 4.

Here's a copy of an album which is difficult to find in any condition, never mind one that looks as good as this one! It's The OX, a collection of Who songs that were all penned by John Entwistle, with the exception of "In The City", which was written by Keith Moon. it's an original first pressing, and the rear sleeve has the "Trackton. 100 NEW PENCE. £1" logo, with the picture of the "smoking boy" in negative. It's NOT one of the Backtrack 99 series, which are themselves difficult to find in nice condition. Backtrack 14 was the last of the Backtrack issues, and unlike the rest of the series, it is not simply a re-issue of a past album, but is a completely stand-alone compilation. The sleeves, printed by E.J. Day, were notoriously flimsy, so storing the record inside resulted in most of them being destroyed. This one has only a faint trace of ringwear, still smooth to the touch, with only 2 mild creases where the sleeve meets the record outline. It has the original "pinched spine" top and bottom edges. But what makes this album better is the vinyl! Simply stunning! Just take a look at those photo's, you will not see a better copy than this. You can see the tracklistings in the photo's, so I will just give the full gradings.

The sleeve is fully intact. No splits, tears or scuffs to the finish. Remarkable for any of the Backtrack series. Light corner dings, and TINY patches of very mild rubbing to the edges. It's the same front and back, and you can use the zoom option to see just how good this copy is. But even this is outshone by the vinyl, which if I had to describe in one word, it would be WOW! I can only find one small faint scratch on the first track of side 1, and I only noticed that because it starts on the outer dead wax. The album looks like new otherwise. Glossy, clean and flat.  The matt black centre labels are extremely clean, with only the smallest amount of faint spindle marks, when held under light. Superb.

If you are looking for a "keeper" copy of this album, then this is the one you want.
