Description

The Triffids were an Australian Indie Rock band, formed in 1980 in Perth W.A., who after several self released records signed with Sydney based independent record company "Hot Records," with whom they released their first full length studio album "Treeless Plain" in November 1983. They followed this up with the record listed here; "Raining Pleasure" , a seven track, 45 RPM, 12 inch EP (or Mini Album) recorded in May 1984. The band blended elements of rock, blues, country, and folk and with the sophisticated song writing skills of singer David McComb began to attract attention in this country and overseas. They received airplay on influential community radio stations such as 3RRR in Melbourne which at that time had a large audience seeking alternatives to the standard pop orientated formats of the commercial radio stations. They disbanded in 1989, but have received belated acclaim in recent years, and in 2008 they were inducted by Nick Cave into the ARIA Hall of Fame. All of the songs bar one on this record are McComb originals, two of them co-written with James Paterson(Guitarist and mandolinist  from the band "J.F.K. and the Cuban Crisis"),."Saint James Infirmary" is the exception. It is a traditional New Orleans Jazz standard, which is still given an original treatment by the band, with thundering timpani percussion accompaniment. The vinyl on both sides is clean and shiny, no scratches, skips or jumps, and both labels are clean. Both sides play with a brightness and presence due to the 45 RPM speed, LOUD and clear(EX). The cover is clean front and back, no tears, creases or splits and the spine is intact and easily read in the shelf(EX) . There is a one page paper insert with song lyrics and band photos on both sides.(see photos 7 & 8) This is clean both sides and apart from a couple of small creases to the corners is still in great condition(VG+) For track listings see photos 5 & 6 For band line up and additional musicians see photo 9 (As far as I can determine, after checking Discogs and other sources, this EP has not been issued as a CD)
