Description
Here is an original copy of 'Percy', one of the rarest albums by The Kinks. It's a soundtrack that sold zilch ... it truly is one of the band's toughest to find. Percy features an instrumental version of Lola with blistering guitarwork from Dave Davies; it also boasts one of the band's most beautiful but least known gems in Moments (final track, side one). The vinyl is the very first and heaviest original UK pressing on the pastel blue Pye label (NSPL 18365) from 1971, featuring the black band across the top rather than down the side as on later reissues. This original disc looks flawless but there is a tiny little mark right at the start of the album which results in five clicks during the intro to God's Children ... it's one of those miniscule marks you would never notice until you hear the click and then you get your magnifying glass out to check out the cause. But after five revolutions it's history! Otherwise the vinyl is beautiful but on account of that sounding mark it grades VG- (UK Record Collector grading). As you can see from the photos it's an otherwise beautiful shiny black slab of original vinyl with those attractive pastel blue and black Pye labels which betray moderate spindle activity indicating some little use over the years. The heavyweight disc lies perfectly flat on the turntable and performs brightly with great clarity. I love these pastel blue Pye pressings! The original textured sleeve is in VG+ condition with sharp corners, fine edges, full text along the spine, a razor-sharp opening edge and a small stain bottom left, front (see photos) which most likely could be removed if you have the right solvent at your disposal. Go for it then ... this is a much overlooked Kinks' LP deserving of greater attention ... you will not be disappointed.
