The Bell Jar

This play chronicles the crack-up of Esther Greenwood: brilliant, beautiful, enormously talented, and successful, but slowly going under—maybe for the last time. Sylvia Plath masterfully draws the reader into Esther's breakdown with such intensity that Esther's insanity becomes completely real and even rational, as probable and accessible an experience as going to the movies. Such deep penetration into the dark and harrowing corners of the psyche is an extraordinary accomplishment and has made The Bell Jar a haunting American classic.

The Sea

The Sea is a 1973 play by Edward Bond. It is a comedy set in a small seaside village in rural East Anglia during the Edwardian period and draws from some of the themes of Shakespeare's The Tempest. It was well-received by critics.

Set in 1907, the play begins with a tempestuous storm in which a well-known and loved member of the community drowns. It then explores the reactions of the villagers and the attempts by two young lovers to break away from the constraints of the hierarchical, and sometimes irrational, society.

At the same time, the town's draper struggles with abuse and bullying from the town's "First Lady", Mrs. Rafi. Believing that aliens from another planet have arrived to invade the city, he had refused to help the drowning man's friend's attempts to save him and eventually goes stark raving mad.

About BBC Transcription Services.

BBC Transcription Services discs were only made available to overseas radio stations for broadcast purposes and were not made available for sale to the general public. However, in the early 90s many international BBC libraries sold their stock to the public.

Typically BBC Transcription Services pressed 100 copies of each disc only with instructions to the overseas radio network to destroy the disc at the end of the licence period.

At BresCollect our aim is to give honest grading of all our records. Due to the amount of stock we have to list though we mostly visually grade our vinyl. We will therefore not give a grade higher than VG+ to any record we have not listened to…even if it looks perfect! All our discs are cleaned before sending out.

Any disk that is graded Ex or higher will have been played before grading.

We use the following criteria for grading:

Mint (M) - The record is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition.

Excellent (Ex) - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good + (VG+) - The record has obviously been played but has only a few light surface marks. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects is acceptable

Very Good (VG) - The record has obviously been played many times and has some visible surface marks. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects is acceptable

Good (G) – The record has visible mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc

Postage is standard UK 2nd class small parcel at a cost of £3.50. Additional records are only charged at £1.00 extra for each ordered.
