Description
Complete & original heavyweight vinyl 1st UK pressing of ‘The Beatles - Please Please Me’ released 22/3/1963 on the short-lived black & gold Parlophone label, briefly used before the classic black & yellow labels were issued a couple of months later.
The 1st pressing can be identified by the four tracks - ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ & ‘Misery’ on side one, and ‘Do You Want To Know A Secret’ & ‘There’s A Place’ on side two - incorrectly credited to ‘Dick James Mus. Co.’ due to an earlier mistake by George Martin, before being corrected to “Northern Songs Ltd” for the 2nd press shortly after.
The 1st press ‘Gold’ sleeve printed by Earnest J. Day Co. Ltd, can be identified by the "Photo: Angus McBean" credit alignment on the front bottom right corner, which begins where the "s" of songs end. On the second issue sleeves, the credit was moved further to the left aligning with the “g”.
Serial number: PMC 1202
Matrix number: XEX 421-1N / XEX 422-1N
The vinyl is in very good condition with exception to a few visible surface marks and scratches, however this has no detriment of the rich quality sound that this pressing gives. It sounds lovely… there is a little static to be expected of a record of its time. It is protected within the original inner sleeve by the anti static Emitex anti static sleeve VG+
The cover is Fair but has had repair along the bottom edge and been taped (very neatly) .. the entry point is very well worn but in one piece., and the original inner sleeve is very good apart from a couple of tiny tares. The centres are in reasonable condition and readable.. the centre spindles do show wear. There has been a name inscribed on the centre of side 2 and it says “keep off”. Only visible on close inspection.
There is a plastic outer sleeve that protects the cover.
