Description
I will be listing 50 or so classic rock/prog albums, all of which have come from a very well looked after collection. Most of which have been stored in plastic sleeves which would explain the remarkable condition of many of the sleeves, some of which are as close to mint as you could get.
Some great titles to be listed, including Hawkwind, Yes, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Santana, Free Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. Many of them 1st pressings in timewarp condition.
This auction is for one of the Holy Grail of Beatles albums. The true first pressing of Please Please Me with the correct black and gold labels, the Dick James Mus. Co. crediting and the small credit to Angus McBean at the bottom right hand corner on the front cover. The first letter of this text “A” starts just after the “S” in “SONGS” text above it. Please see images, it's a bit worn right in this exact spot but it's there.
Stampers are important with this record. Both sides are 1 H or 1 M it's hard to tell as the letter is just 2 lines with a dot in the middle but i would think it is 1 M because of this, as the H's are normally more obvious and the M's denoted in this way. This makes it as pressed from the very first lacquer and the 4th mother (if M). Within the first 1500 made. There's an image of the M/H so take a look.
You can also just make out the tax code stamp either side of the spindle on side 2 'MT', which is what you want to see with true first pressings.
Either way this is an incredibly rare piece of vinyl, highly desirable and one of several 'Grail' records for Beatle Collectors, even in this condition.
All this information tells us that this is a very early first pressing as well.
Please note all the details including Matrix numbers etc.
All the relevant details should be present for all interested parties to make an informed decision as to value.
Please don't hesitate to email me though if you want any more information.
The Beatles - Please Please Me
Parlophone - Mono - Black & Gold Labels (First Variation before it was changed)
This is the debut album from the most influential band of the 20th century
Vinyl is, in my opinion, VG condition. Side A - Quite a few light scuffs and marks. 6 marks you can actually feel on track 1 and a scratch that runs through track 2 into track 1 that you can also feel if you run your finger over it (Please see images). These are audible when playing the record Side B - Again lots of light scuffs and scratches but none that you can pick up running your finger over them.
The record actually plays really well and the sound quality is superb. Mainly due to it being an early pressing.
Catologue number: PMC 1202
Matrix numbers Matrix / Runout (Side A label): XEX.421 Matrix / Runout (Side B label): XEX.422 Matrix / Runout (Side A runout): XEX 421-1N Matrix / Runout (Side B runout): XEX 422-1N Stampers - Same on both sides. 1 (9.00) M or H? (3.00)
Condition of vinyl is VG
The inner sleeve is VG - Small 25mm split top right
Outer sleeve - Good+ - It's all there apart from approx 50mm loss bottom right of the fold over, lots of wear to all the edges, spine is bumped. Bottom seam is detached and top seam is 50% detached. Tape marks to the back. Please see images. Given some time spent and careful restoration, this could be restored to a couple of extra grades, adding lots of value.
I'm going to list this with a £1.00 start price and no reserve as i find this one a tricky record to put a value on so will let the competition decide.
