I've had the record professionally cleaned on an Okki Nokki cleaning machine (thanks to Chris at Those Old Records, Rugeley). I won't wax lyrical on the sound, all I'll say is that when I test played it it sounded amazing. Side 1 plays really nicely with a good, bright clear sound. There is hardly any surface noise or clicks and absolutely no jumps, sticks or skips. On side 2 there is a couple of low clicks audible on the 1st couple of bars of Love Me Do, there are also 3 low clicks on the dead wax between There's A Place and Twist And Shout. Like side 1 the sound is bright and clear and there are no jumps, sticks or skips. It really does sound excellent. There is a fair bit of spindle wear on side one which indicates that the record has been played a fair bit in the past but this doesn't detract from the excellent sound quality I've just heard.
Visually there are light surface scratches and scuffs present on both sides but they don't affect play. The Side 1 label is showing a fair bit of wear and some of the lettering is starting to fade. There is also a fair bit of spindle wear. The side 2 label is in excellent condition - the text is still bright and clear and fully legible. The ridge is on this side - it is prominent from 3 O'clock to 10 O'clock and then gradually fades.
The laminate on the front of the sleeve is intact, There is some discolouration marking on the "T" of "The Beatles". There is some wear along the top edge of the sleeve and the bottom edge has a 1" split from the opening edge (just under the McBean credit). There is a little spine compression and some wear on the lettering. The rear of the sleeve is showing signs of age with some discolouration and ring wear on the left hand side. The lined emitex inner sleeve is in excellent condition with no splits, tears or writing.
These are eminently collectible because of the early pressing status and this one in particular is rare because it's a crossover label. Dick James on side 1 and Northern Songs on side 2, also the ridged label adds to the rarity of the record.
