BACKGROUND

A fantastic opportunity to own ‘Please Please Me’ the Holy Grail of Beatles' Vinyls and of great importance to collectors worldwide. This debut album by English rock band The Beatles was released by Parlophone on March 22nd, 1963 in Great Britain after the great success of the two singles "Please Please Me" and "Love Me Do". That same year four pressings of this LP were released and the LP remained at the top of the charts for 30 weeks. Of the album's fourteen songs, eight were written by Lennon–McCartney (originally credited "McCartney–Lennon").

This record was meant to be their first LP, but the group had so far recorded only four songs and the norm for British 12’’ vinyl pop albums at that time was to have seven tracks on each side. Ten more tracks were needed and therefore, at 10:00 am on Monday, 11 February 1963, The Beatles and George Martin started recording. The recording was a rush that lasted 9 hours and 45 minutes. In only three sessions on that same day they succeeded in producing an authentic representation of the band's early-time sound, as well as one of the best records ever, as there were very few overdubs and edits. Optimistically, only two sessions were originally booked. The evening session was added later.

The day ended with a cover of Twist and Shout, which had to be recorded last because John Lennon had a particularly bad cold and Martin feared the throat-shredding vocal would ruin Lennon's voice for the day. This performance, captured on the first take, prompted Martin to say: "I don't know how they do it. We've been recording all day but the longer we go on the better they get."

This Holy Grail version of Please Please Please Me is scarce and becoming harder to find every day which makes it an appreciating investment set to rise year on year into the future. Pretty obvious really, as one thing is certain: they definitely won't increase in quantity.

The record is in brand new condition, absolutely perfect. Certainly never played, possibly even still sealed. Should be used sparingly as a grade, if at all.

Near Mint

Describes an almost mint record, this grade is used for records that appear virtually flawless but not perfect. A very minor scuff can appear on the record. Yet, the record must play without any noise over the flaw and the latter must be very hard to detect. Any blemish affecting sound quality will prevent records from being graded NM or M.

The cover should look close to perfect with only minor signs of wear and or age. Minor impressions to the cover (due to the outer edge of the record resting inside) may be acceptable. It has no creases, folds, seam splits or any other noticeable similar defect. No cut-out holes, either. And of course, the same is true of any other inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves, and the like. Basically, Near Mint looks as if you just got it home from a new record store and removed the shrink wrap.

Cover shows some handling imperfection like normal wear and tear, price tag, creasing. Minor ring wear, moderate wear to edges and corners. Cover can also be in mint condition but there is a DJ or promo copy stamp or cut in the corner.

Now the signs of age and handling are starting to show. You can notice some clear wear on the surface. Some scratches that may cause clicks, crackles or pops. There may be minor warps and skips. Labels may be marked.

Cover suffers from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration. Cover will have ring wear.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has been noticeably deteriorated. Likely to be lots of minor scratches and scuffs. Potential label marks and damage.

The cover and contents can be torn, stained and/or defaced, there also can be some writing on it
