Baron Elmo Enterprises proudly presents a stunning treasure trove of never-before released material from the vaults of the mighty CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & HIS MAGIC BAND: "Grow Fins” Volumes 1, 2, and 3--a trio of SEALED audiophile double lps. That's SIX unplayed records worth of previously unissued Beefheart material, released in 1999 and 2000 by the Xeric label. These lps, taken as a unit, are the vinyl version of the “Grow Fins” 5-CD box set, issued on the late John Fahey’s Revenant label. These records feature incredible demos, outtakes, rehearsals and live material, spanning the years from his earliest recording sessions in the mid-sixties to his retirement from music in 1982. For us Beefheart fans, it’s like unearthing both the Holy Grail and Orson Welles’ lost footage to “The Magnificent Ambersons” in the same dusty trunk. From raw, garage-rock takes on the Delta blues to the white-hot avant-dada stomp of his classic “Trout Mask Replica” lp, to the splintered, angular art-rock of his later years, Beefheart has BEEN THERE... and these three double lps are your ticket to ride through the nooks and corners of his amazing universe. In addition to alternate and live versions of familiar songs, you get quite a few pieces that never appeared on any of the Captain’s albums... smokin’ covers of classic blues tunes from the likes of Howlin' Wolf, Blind Willie Johnson, John Lee Hooker and that Public Domain guy, plus numerous obscure originals that never made it onto the Captain’s vintage albums: “Obeah Man,” “Just Got Back From the City,” “Triple Combination,” “Old Folks Boogie,” “Spitball Scalped Uh Baby,” “Odd Jobs,” “Vampire Suite,” and more. Inside each album is a mindblowing 24-page lp-sized book crammed with notes, dozens of rare photos, session information, and a killer oral history of the musical career of Beefheart, aided by the memories of numerous Magic Band members. (Note: you get the exact same book in each double lp.) Volume Two includes a poster. These lps are all currently out of print, with no reissue in the works.
