Description
THE BEATLES IN MONO VINYL BOX SET - Long out of print, this copy is sealed and mint. I probably don't have to explain this set, but I'll include below the promo language used when the box was announced in 2014.
IMPORTANT: The outer box was NOT shrink-wrapped. Each LP is sealed in its own mylar outer sleeve (as are commonly used in Japan), and the magnificent book is conventionally shrink wrapped. Because the outer box was not shrink wrapped I am able to provide a picture of the contents (please see Picture 4). These albums have never been touched, and while mylar outer sleeves have an adhesive flap, it's pretty obvious when these flaps have been opened and resealed. Each LP is factory sealed. PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS ITEM IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS AS TO ITS CONDITION. I have no need, inclination, or time to try to rip anybody off, and I hope my feedback speaks to that fact.
By the way, I like those mylar sleeves for look and feel, but why ANYONE would want an adhesive strip anywhere near their LP covers has always mystified me. I prefer the Bags Unlimited 13"x13", 3mm outer sleeves...but your mileage may vary!
SONICS: I've got a pretty large Beatles collection (some of which I may sell eventually), including original UK mono and stereo pressings. Yes, there are some subtle differences between the originals and this set, but having done a number of A/B comparisons, it's really hard to tell the difference (except the the box set vinyl is SO quiet that it tends to be a bit of a giveaway). If ONLY Apple had given the stereo box the same, all-analogue treatment!
ORIGINAL PROMO VERBIAGE:
The Beatles in mono: This is how most listeners first heard the group in the 1960s, when mono was the predominant audio format. Up until 1968, each Beatles album was given a unique mono and stereo mix, but the group always regarded the mono as primary. THE BEATLES IN MONO VINYL BOX SET is released in mono on fourteen 180-gram vinyl LPs with faithfully replicated artwork, newly mastered from the analogue master tapes.
In an audiophile-minded undertaking, The Beatles' acclaimed mono albums have been newly mastered for vinyl from quarter-inch master tapes at Abbey Road Studios by GRAMMY®-winning engineer Sean Magee and GRAMMY®-winning mastering supervisor Steve Berkowitz. While THE BEATLES IN MONO CD boxed set released in 2009 was created from digital remasters, for this new vinyl project, Magee and Berkowitz cut the records without using any digital technology. Instead, they employed the same procedures used in the 1960s, guided by the original albums and by detailed transfer notes made by the original cutting engineers.
Working in the same room at Abbey Road where most of The Beatles' albums were initially cut, the pair first dedicated weeks to concentrated listening, fastidiously comparing the master tapes with first pressings of the mono records made in the 1960s. Using a rigorously tested Studer A80 machine to play back the precious tapes, the new vinyl was cut on a 1980s-era VMS80 lathe.
Manufactured for the world at Optimal Media in Germany, The Beatles' albums are presented in their original glory, both sonically and in their packaging. The boxed collection's exclusive 12-inch by 12-inch hardbound book features new essays and a detailed history of the mastering process by award-winning radio producer and author Kevin Howlett. The book is illustrated with many rare studio photos of The Beatles, fascinating archive documents, and articles and advertisements sourced from 1960s publications.
Albums included in the box set are REVOLVER, MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR, RUBBER SOUL, WITH THE BEATLES, MONO MASTERS (3LP SET), THE BEATLES (2LP SET), BEATLES FOR SALE, SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND, PLEASE PLEASE ME, HELP! and A HARD DAY'S NIGHT.
ABOUT SHIPPING AND HANDLING: Please note there is a $5 fee included in Ebay's estimate of Media Mail shipping costs. I believe the best way to way to ship an LP includes a 13"x14"x3" "pizza" style box, 12"x12" cardboard flats, outer shopping bag, and bubble wrap. The shipping boxes alone cost me over $3 each, and the average total cost of shipping materials is around $4.72, so this is NOT a money-maker for me. However, it does ensure, consistently, that these high value LPs arrive safely. Please check my feedback and I think you'll see that buyers appreciate the care with which these precious artifacts are handled.
COMBINED SHIPPING: I am more than happy to combine shipping. Ebay buyers will only pay the actual postage costs. If I am shipping two LPs together, I will also refund one of the $5 handling fees. If I am shipping three LPs together, I'll waive all the handling fees, so the buyer pays for POSTAGE only on purchases of three or more LPs.
About Me: I'm a long time Ebay buyer intent on selling a significant portion of my LP collection over the next year or two (or three!). I believe in the auction process, so I'm NOT going to list records at absurdly high prices, and I look forward to getting rare, out of print records into the hands of music lovers, record collectors and audiophiles (I consider myself all of the above). All LPS stored in a smoke-free, climate controlled environment.
Please check my feedback and BID WITH CONFIDENCE. Also, please take a look at other items I'm listing (new items will be listed on Sunday and Wednesday nights), and good luck!
