This double LP has roughly half of two Verve albums (The Interpretations of Tal Farlow and This Is Tal Farlow), plus five selections from a previously unknown 1956 session that was released for the first time on the 1984 two-fer. The latter session matches the brilliant guitarist Farlow with cellist Oscar Pettiford, pianist Hank Jones, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Louis Bellson (mistakenly listed as Harry Bellson) and is up to the consistently high level of Farlow's other Verve performances. Whether heard with the Pettiford group, or in trios headed by pianists Claude Williamson or Eddie Costa, Farlow is featured throughout in peak form. Hopefully, this valuable and enjoyable music will resurface on CD.
