Description

Well, this is the big one.  You have been waiting...saving that extra cash or room on the credit cards...not entirely knowing why.  This is why.  What you have before you is a complete collection of the first 150 Sub Pop singles (yes, that one too).  This includes the entire first run of the Sub Pop Singles Club and every 7" record in between, spanning almost seven years of Sub Pop history (1987 through most of 1994’s releases).  I have spent many years amassing this collection from record stores in Tokyo, New York, and Geneva, to random other collectors and of course, eBay. I went up to 150 to make it a nice, round number.  There are some true gems in here.  This is a very long page.  Please read all details of the auction, including payment and shipping instructions, before bidding.

I have tried to give as many details about the conditions of these records as possible.  There is an epidemic on eBay of overgraded vinyl.  I have tried to be as honest as possible.  This means that I have attempted to exercise excruciating detail about the conditions, and am probably mentioning a lot of things that many would omit.  In fact, a large portion of the records in this set were previously listed on eBay as "Mint" or "NM".  It takes an awful lot for me to issue a grade like that, and 13-19 year old records rarely earn those marks.  I try to list everything.  One thing that is often overlooked by sellers is warp in records.  I have tested all of these, and if there is any warp to them, it is mentioned, small and inaudible (unless otherwise noted).

The discography information detailed below is also as accurate as possible.  There is some conflicting information out there on this subject, and I have tried to compile the most accurate discography data.  So if nothing else, use this as a reference guide and enjoy the ride.  Click on the images to see larger versions.

As a BONUS: I have recorded every record in here, and will include with the auction data cds containing the audio files for EVERY 7" listed.  This was a big project, and now you can benefit from my work.  No, I will not be selling this file collection separately.

Incidentally, if you are interested in Singles Club V2, I also have that for sale in another auction. So if you are ambitious enough, you can own complete collections of BOTH runs of the Sub Pop Singles Club. That second set would complement the first 150 Sub Pop 7"s nicely, don’t you think?

SP12 - Soundgarden
Hunted Down b/w Nothing to Say
500 blue vinyl
Record is in beautiful condition, other than one slight thing: there is a little warp to the record.  I have seen about 4 copies of this one over the years, and they have all had the same slight warp.  It is very light, thin vinyl, and was apparently prone to this.  It plays perfectly and is a gem.  It does not include the original blue heavy paper sleeve.

SP13 - Blood Circus
Two Way Street b/w Six Foot Under
800 red, 200 black - this copy: red
Vinyl has one big surface mark that looks bad but is basically inaudible.  Original paper sleeve has some ring wear.

SP14 - Swallow
Trapped b/w Guts
600 yellow, 200 black - this copy: yellow
Vinyl looks perfect (one black speck, but that is in the vinyl).  Original yellow paper sleeve has a dent and some ring wear.

SP18 - Mudhoney
Touch Me I'm Sick b/w Sweet Young Thing (Ain't Sweet No More)
1st press: 800 brown, 200 black, very few on some other colors - this copy: the legendary brown version
Very nice vinyl.  A couple of small surface marks; nothing significant.  Plain white paper sleeve.

SP19 - Tad
Daisy b/w Ritual Device
964 clear, 70 gold - this copy: clear
No scratches on vinyl; some unidentified residue from what would appear to be a previous cleaning - does not affect play.

SP23 - Nirvana
Love Buzz b/w Big Cheese, Singles Club # 1, 11/88
1000 hand-numbered, plus 200 more with a red marker line where the number should be.  This record is the prize of my listing.  There are lots of bootlegs out there; this is an ORIGINAL - #130/1000.  It passes the tests.  "Alice Wheeler" and "Susan Sasic" can clearly be read on the back of the sleeve.  The red marker matches others with similar numbers.  The trail off wax reads: SP-23-A Why don't you trade those guitars for shovels? and SP-23-B . kdisc is machine-stamped on both sides. I have never seen a nicer copy of this record.  Other than the tiniest hint of ring wear, this is in amazing condition.

SP53 Big Chief
Chrome Helmet b/w Blowout Kit, Singles Club #17, 3/90
1500 white, 1500 black - this copy: white, foldover paper sleeve.
Vinyl has no evident scratching.  There is a smudge in the rough shape of a fingerprint on both sides, but it appears to be part of the vinyl.  Very slight warp.  There is a little surface noise.  The sleeve has some ring wear and a crease at the top.

As the story goes, it was around this point at which Erika Records (the pressing plant) told Sub Pop that it was cheaper and potentially quicker to only say they wanted "color vinyl," rather than specifying a specific color.  As a result, many of the records produced from 1990-1993 had a vast variety of colors.  When I say a record came out in "various colors," I am referring to this situation.

Pay me

U.S. - PayPal only.  Outside U.S. - PayPal preferred, but I can do a bank transfer from within Europe if that is the only option. The PayPal fees will cost you less than those associated with a bank transfer (plus, then you can use credit cards!).

Postage

This part is tricky.  Here's the situation.  I am currently living in Switzerland, but will be in New York for a week in late October.  Therefore, U.S. buyers have two choices - pay U.S. shipping costs with maximum insurance (required), or you can pick the set up in New York in late October.  European buyers can either pay the air freight costs from Switzerland (also with maximum insurance required), or can pick the set up in Geneva.  If you opt for the Geneva pick-up option, you must pick them up by November 30th.  Outside of the U.S. and Europe, you pay air shipping with maximum insurance.  Also, I will declare actual paid values on customs forms.  Please take this into account when bidding. The big box of singles weighs about 21 lbs (10 kg). The 4 or 5 premier items in this set will be sent in a separate packet, which will be registered and also fully insured.  I WILL combine shipping if you win my other auction as well.  Prices:
- U.S. Media Mail: $24.00
- U.S. Parcel Post: $42.00
- Europe - Country adjacent to Switzerland: $60.00
- Europe - UK, Spain, or other country not adjacent to Switzerland: $70.00
- Africa, Asia: $110.00
- South America, Australia: $120.00

Insurance is MANDATORY.  I know the prices are odd.  It has to do with the different postal systems.  The cost:
- U.S.: $50.00
- Rest of world: $25.00.
