Description
Stone Roses ‘So Young’ 12”
Original & Unplayed First Release.
This is a genuine chance to not only own one of the original, limited-release copies of their first single in pristine, unplayed condition, but one that also has a unique provenance.
Gareth Evens, the band’s manager, had got in touch with me to ask if I was interested in producing the Stone Rose’s first album at Strongroom, my Shoreditch recording studio at the time.
At our first meeting he brought along this copy for me and had attached his contact details onto the record label.
He explained how he and the band had built up a massive following in the Manchester area and that the 1200 limited edition of this 12” single had sold out in double quick time. As a result he was in a rush to get on with putting an album together.
We met up a couple of more times and I went to see the Stone Roses play two small gigs outside of Manchester. It was obvious, even then, that they were out of the ordinary with John Squire really standing out as a guitarist.
I didn’t accept the job in the end and I’m sure John Leckie was actually the right producer for the band. The album’s fantastic success says it all.
So here’s an opportunity to own one of the UK’s most iconic records with a direct and historical connection to the early days of this most sought after and ground-breaking band.
