ID no. 9009604 Title: Wagner - Chopin Test Pressing Artist: Stokowski/ HSO Product Condition: SS Cover Condition: M Description:  This auction is for a STILL SEALED single LP Test Pressing marked (A/B) of the Classic Records 200gram reissue of "Wagner, Chopin and Thomas Canning's Fantasy" with Leopold Stokowski conducting the Houston Symphony Orchestra. Comes with jacket. These highly collectible test pressings are from the first stamper and less than 20 exist. Test pressings reflect the closest you can get to the lacquers and hence have a special collectible value and store of value. This release is a compilation of Stokowski/Houston performances recorded at the Houston Civic Center by Bert Whyte and originally released in 1960. Compositions include Stokowski arrangements of “Wotan’s Farewell” and “Magic Fire Music” from Wagner’s “Die Walkure”, “Mazurka in A minor”, “Prelude in D minor” and Waltz in C sharp minor” by Chopin. Also included is the not often performed or recorded “Fantasy on a Hymn Tune” composed by Thomas Canning. The LP, as are all reissues from this series, was cut DIRECTLY FROM THE 35mm MAGNETIC FILM using a vintage Westrex 1551 tape machine, with specially built playback electronics that are vastly superior to any others used on these machines to playback the original 35mm tapes. The Len others used on these machines to playback the original 35mm tapes. The Len Horowitz / History of Recorded Sound specially modified 1551, fitted with brand new playback heads matched to the revolutionary playback electronics was stationed at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. With Len Horowitz running the playback machine and Bernie Grundman mastering from the three track 35mm tapes, Classic Records has been able to cut the legendary sound and performances DIRECTLY FROM THE 35mm MAGNETIC FILM through Classic's "ALL TUBE" tape playback system and cutting system at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. The LP's are pressed on Classic's 200g Super Vinyl Profile making it possible to get ever nuance out of the non-distorted grooves that make SVP sound superior to all other records on the market today. Jacket in mint condition.  

  Grading Scale: SS still sealed these are original factory seals and not rewraps M mint hardly played but open M- mint- played some but not much, no visible marks from handling VG+ very good+ played but taken care of excellently VG very good played and may show some light wear VG- very good- played and may have some very light surface scratches G+ good+ played and probably shows some wear and scratches G good to the point of well played and shows wear and scratches G- good- getting to a lot of play and poor handling F+ fair+ heavy wear and scratches but probably doesn´t skip F fair heavy wear and surface noise, with scratches F- fair- heavy wear and scratches that will probably cause skips P poor you are buying this record for its rarity, not sound quality*     *We care not to have poor records unless they are so scarce that it is worth it.
