ID no. 9006410 Title: Rhapsodies Test Pressing Artist: Stokowski Product Condition: SS Cover Condition: SS Description:  This auction is for a Double LP STILL SEALED single sided Test Pressing set of RCA Living Stereo Classic's Stokowski/Rhapsodies with jacket from the Classic Records 180g reissue. These highly collectible test pressings (marked A1 & B2) are from the first stamper of the first and second lacquer cuttings - less than 20 exist. These sides may or may not have been used in production of the final pressing and therefore many are unique as “unreleased”. Single sided test pressings represent the ultimate in sonic performance and in collectibility. Sonically, the advantages of a single sided disc (one side without grooves) are characterized by more solid bass response, increased overall clarity and superior low level information retrieval. The improvements over a conventional 2 sided disc result from a better coupling between the non-grooved side and the turntable platter which results in better resonance absorption of the cartridge/groove interaction induced resonances. Further, on a two sided LP, standing waves are created in the grooves on the platter side of the disc that feedback into the cartridge causing slight mechanical distortions which is avoided on a single sided pressing. It is easy to hear the difference in a singled sided LP vs. a double sided version from the same stampers and vinyl formulations. Test pressings reflect the closest you can get to the lacquers and hence have a special collectible value and store of value. Jacket in good condition. Small dent on bottom left hand corner.
