SMOKEY SMOTHERS - King LP 779
Sings The Backporch Blues
Here's one you don't see everyday... an original black label copy of the rare Smokey Smothers King LP "Sings The Backporch Blues." Recorded in 1960, Smothers and his guitar front a small, but tough, band with support from sidemen Fred Jordan on guitar and Philip Paul on drums. The legendary Freddy King also appears on some tracks adding more potent six-string licks. The front cover is still bright in color, but it is showing signs of age (the LP is almost fifty-years old). Bottom seam is split about 2/3 across, top seam about 1/3 across. There's a bend in the top-left corner and evidence of tape along the spine - other corners have small bends. Back top of LP cover has "Bought in Paris, France, 1966" written in pen. Side one of the LP appears to have had more play, but it runs all the way through with no skips, as does side two. There are scuff marks on both sides and some groove wear on side one and the record does have some surface noise - though it is not severe. This is a very rare King blues LP - second only to the super-rare Gatemouth Moore LP. Bid accordingly on this rarity and good luck!
