The Small Faces:  "Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake"    (Immediate IMSP 012)

Original UK release from 1968  (Stereo)   ...  in like new condition.

Disclaimer Notice:

As this item is sealed, I obviously cannot observe and verify its inner contents.  I cannot verify the label color and print nor the dead wax etching.  I must judge its authenticity based solely on its outer appearance and my knowledge of its history.  So, as a potential buyer of what I believe to be a most rare collectible LP, you must accept the risk that I have unknowingly, wrongly reported its vintage.  I have researched this item carefully, relying heavily on the highly reputable Discogs website, and in good faith share below what I know of this item and what leads me to believe that it is what I have cited.

First, a note on its history.  This Small Faces LP was part of a large collection of records I purchased in an estate sale back in the early 1980's.  This was one of about 700 records in that collection focused on 1950's and 60's rock 'n' roll, nearly all of which were in superb condition and numerous of which were highly collectible.  For example, the collection included both Them LP's as first US pressings (in the prized mono), all the early Rolling  Stones LP's as first US pressings (in mono), numerous pricey UK imports and several sealed items.  In short, this collection was compiled over many years by a learned and serious music lover.  I paid a handsome price for it.    

Second, all I see on this item is fully consistent with it being an original UK pressing from 1968 on the Immediate label.  Study notes and photos on the Discogs website which document:

Two particular features are noteworthy:

1)  A thin greenish black colored squiggly line that appears on the front cover approximately 1/2 inch below the letters ATE in Immediate.  I believe this squiggly line is unique to the original stereo 1968 release.  This line is clearly present in the Discogs photos for this release but is not present on other releases (to the best of my knowledge).  Further, this squiggly line can be seen in photos of other (unsealed) original 1968 stereo copies of this LP sold in recent months on eBay ... but is not seen in photos of later reissues. 

2)  The patent documentation print at the bottom of the back cover is an exact match of that shown in the Discogs photo.  It is true that this same patent print appears on at least one other version of this LP but the vast majority of other versions of this LP have a different patent documentation print look.

I have done my best to provide closeup photos of these two details so that you may compare them to the Discogs photos and to photos in eBay listings of other copies of this LP.

In summary, I believe this to be a most rare collectible.  I personally have not seen another sealed copy of "Ogdens" in more than 45 years, much less a first pressing UK import.  Everyone I knew who bought this album, myself included, opened it.     ;-)

Sadly, I cannot guarantee the authenticity of this item without breaking the seal.  For obvious reasons, I am not willing to break the seal.  I put this LP up for sale expecting that some collector out there will accept the risk that this is not what I believe it to be in hopes that he or she is scoring a collectible that comes along once in a lifetime.  

As a good and honest record collector for more than 50 years now, I would never knowingly misrepresent an item or deceive a buyer.  I pray that it is the real thing and hope that someone out there buys it and is delighted with it.  However, as this LP's sealed state is essential to its high value, should you buy this item and break the seal, I will not accept a return nor refund your payment.  I hope you understand my insistence on that disclaimer in this highly unusual record sale situation.

Finally, if you know of any other way to verify the vintage of this item without breaking the seal, please contact me and share that knowledge.
