Simla Beat 70/71 double LP reissue on Ten Little Indians circa late 90's. This is copy #90/400.
Stunning packaging, super heavy cardboard gatefold, glossy and nice and heavy records (maybe 180 gm?). Features the original liner notes in the gatefold- as well as where each band was from (Madras, Bangalore, Bombay, Hyderabed, Delhi, Shillong and so on). The original of this is mega-rare, the story is -basically the Simla cigarrete company of India had a huge battle of the bands type of contest ("The All-India Simla Beat Contest") and released a double lp to showcase the winners.
Western music of the mid-to-late 60's took a while to filter over to India, so although the recordings date from 70 & 71, they sound earlier and each lp is full of beat/psych/garage gems as projected through the lens of Indian youth culture. A really stunning document. Note: this has been reissued on cd (I think), but that may be out of print. I have only played this 3 times since I bought and both lp's are in m-, and the cover is also m-, both are nearly perfect (I didn't brush the record before the photo though- so its a little dusty).
