Description
For auction today:
Serge Ermoll Jr. and the El Rocco Jazz Quintette. Blowin' at the Rocco, Saturday Night. Private pressing on Festival label. Only one other copy known to exist.
# FRE/925.
Title causes confusion. One would think that it was recorded at the El Rocco club, live by the title "Blowin at the Rocco, Saturday Night" but it is a studio album.
I've heard it and this is most definitely the case. Audio is crisp and clear.
Recorded at Vis-Sound Studios, Sydney, Australia. 1968.
This 5 piece with a then, 25 year-old Serge Ermoll, perform 8 tracks as shown in photo.
Cover has feint r/wear to rear.
Clean labels.
S2 has about 1/4 of the surface with very feint hazing. Virtually impossible to see in normal room light but can see it under direct lamplight. Def. a minor fault. S1 has less of this hazing and even more feint. Hardly worth mentioning. Plays without any effect from this hazing, as tested on my Rega. No scratches or marks or other damage and seldom played.
The rarest Australian jazz album there is, from what I can ascertain and a landmark one at that, given the fame of Mr. Ermoll, later on.
