Schubert Fantasie Rondeau Max Rostal UK HMV CLP 1112 RARE
On this extremely rare record, Violinist Max Rostal with Colin Horsley plays Schubert’s “Fantasie in C Major” (D934), Rondeau Brillant” (D895, and “Sonatina No. 1” (D384). An English mono pressing on the HMV Label (CLP 1112)(stampers 2XEA 667-1N and 1 R), the labels are plum with gold lettering, a large fan shaped dog, groove, and Made in Great Britain at 6 o’clock. The record has a small pressing “mound” on side one that thumps gently for 3 or 4 revolutions, and there are two light scuffs on side two, neither of which affect the sound quality. It plays and sounds superb – some crackle would be removed by use of a cleaning machine (ours is currently broken). Otherwise the record is of immaculate appearance without spindle marks. The cover has rubbed a little and overall is in very good condition.
