You are bidding on a three record set of Bach 6 Sonatas &

Partitas for Violin Alone by Joseph Szigeti on VANGUARD

BG 627, 628, 629. This recording does not need any introduction to

Szigeti and violin fans. The red label records are pressed on heavy

vinyl and were recorded under the auspices of The Bach Guild.

The boxed set still has the original Vanguard recording promo flyer

dated August 1962 and a Vanguard mail survey card! There is a

reasonable reserve on this record considering its rarity, condition

and desirability. Unless otherwise noted I only visually grade the

records using a bright white halogen light. Please see below for a

Sonata # 1 and

Partita # 1

No spindle marks, a couple of surface scuffs.  There is one scratch at the end of the third cut (Sonata Siciliana) that repeats about 15 times. Three or four of these repeats are fairly loud. There are one or two other repeating ticks on this side. I grade Side 1 VG+/NM due to this scratch although the rest of the side looks NM/VG+.

A couple of minor spindle marks with a surface few mars and scuffs, and a couple of small pressing bubbles, one between tracks 5 & 6 so it doesn’t affect the music. The other bubble cause some intermittent clicks and pops. Side 2 is NM/VG+.  

Gatefold box has some ring ware and scuffing to the front cover. There is some surface paper loss on the lower right side of the front cover but the box hinge is perfect.

The descriptive text is glued to the font and back of the inside of the box and is perfect. Overall box grades VG+/NM to NM/VG+.

My Record Grading Criteria

LP's

• FS - Factory Sealed
• NM - Near Mint Records appear in new condition. Should play as new.
• NM minus - Scrupulously cared for record with a minimum of surface mars and spindle trails. All listeners with sensitive systems may not be satisfied but most will be.
• NM/VG+ - Near mint/Very good plus - A step down. May have one area of low-level recurring noise.
• VG+/NM - Records may have 2 of 3 areas of low level recurring noise.
• VG+ - Typical well used record.
• VG - Noise will likely be constant and/or severe. Need a motivated listener.
• G - Record barely plays. This is a stopgap and will do until a better copy comes along.

COVERS

• FS - Factory Sealed
• NM - Near Mint Generally in new condition.
• NM minus - Slightly less than Near Mint.
• NM/VG+ - Near Mint Very Good Plus. One or two minor defects.
• VG+/NM - There may be a variety of problems: Ring wear, corner wear, but generally in good condition.
• VG+ - Probably has more wear, more corner damage and possibly a variety of taped or spit seams.
• G and P - (Good and Poor) Just plain bad jackets. Might be in two pieces.
