Description

Blues Walk Right In: Sylvia Mars.
Label:Folk-Lyric FL 124. Printed in USA.
Unusual and nice LP by black female singer, Sylvia Mars, performing country blues and spirituals.
The artist has been discovered by Dr. Harry Oster.
LP edited and produced by Harry Oster (late 1950's).
Sylvia Mars, vocal unaccompanied (A2, A4, A6, B1, B3, B5) or vocal accompanied by Mitch Greenhill, guitar (A1, A3, A5, A7, B2, B4, B6) and Gordie Edwards, harmonica (A1, A3, A5, A7, B2).
From the Folk-Lyric catalog: "The latest representative of a tradition of great Negro contraltos like Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, and Memphis Minnie — Sylvia Mars, originally a native of Abbeville, South Carolina, performs a wide variety of blues and spirituals, including several notable examples of unaccompanied "Dr. Watts" hymns — a slow moaning style in which the voice freely ornaments the melody, a form of singing ultimately derived from the lining out of hymns in the British Isles during the seventeenth century".
The LP is very rare and in great shape (near mint).
It is mentioned in the official Post-War blues discography but, in nearly thirty-five years of blues LP collecting, I have never seen a copy of this record offered nowhere.
This is a good opportunity to purchase this rare vinyl.
