STARS OF SIX-FIVE SPECIAL ORIGINAL 1957 10" SKIFFLE LP DECCA LF 1299

 

This is a seriously rare LP.  1957 had only just about got its head around beginning the transition from 78rpm to 45 rpm let alone taking on board the LP.  Expensive and misunderstood, the long playing record existed as a 10” format for a couple of years or so only.  Those two factors make the existence of this item scarce enough. 

 

The additional desirability factor here is the wonderful condition.  All records of this era were played on antediluvian equipment.  Many on old 78, wind-up gramophones by mistake.  This has clearly been lovingly cared for and unlike almost every other 10” LP or 45 from the time displays no distortion or aural defect when played.  Ex condition at least with the sleeve in a similar state.  It really is the best you’re going to see.  

 

The line up, sporting a very, very young looking George Melly,  is The Bob Cort Skiffle Group, Wee Willie Harris and The Worried Men.in addition to the better known skifflers of the time like Tommy Steele, Chris Barber and Terry Dene,
