Stanford Prison Experiment were a politically charged alternative rock/hardcore band from Los Angeles, California, active between the years 1992 - 2002. Formed in Los Angeles, California, USA, in the early 90s, Stanford Prison Experiment comprise Mike Starkey (guitar, vocals), Mario Jiminez (vocals), Mark Fraser (bass) and Davey Latter (drums). Matching the energy of punk with rock riffs and construction, the band’s quick rise followed the release of a strong debut album....

Stanford Prison Experiment is one of those rare bands that can use a conventional sound with unconventional skill. While most of the band's self-titled album concentrates on riff-heavy alt rock, its composition is tight, direct, and likeable enough to overshoot whatever limitations the genre may impose. Things get even better on tracks like "Written Apology," when the band uses its rather standard constructions to more melodic effect. Over a record filled with similarly effective turns, Stanford Prison Experiment proves itself as semi-great band in a well-worn vein of rock...(AllMusic)
